BIRDS is the fourth studio album of Philipp Hagers SCHWEBEN project. It compares solo Saxophone compositions & improvisation with field recordings of bird-songs & nature sounds. Modern Compostion meets Minimalism, Jazz meets Kosmische and Music Concrete! It it the next chapter in SCHWEBENs ongoing explorations of new musical terretories!

It also covers the topic of body-works and the importance of the breath for communication, especially singing and playing melodies as an act of social communication for thousands of years, either in the natural habit of birds singing, as well as the fact of music as an act of talking to each other and a special form of human communication.

A reed instrument, as a sort of body and breath extension for the human body, has a special role in this sociocultural act. Making this experience inside the body while playing the Saxophone during these recordings, was a very important influence for the album.

It also was recorded in parts outside, as an act of communication with the birds singing, so you can read it as a sort of communicational act between the first and second nature inside the human body and an attempt of reconciliation. Enjoy!
